About Standard Motorcycles

Most types of motorcycles, such as off-road motorcycles and touring motorcycles, are designed with a particular purpose in mind. What makes standard motorcycles – sometimes called naked bikes – unique is that they’re not specialized for any particular type of riding. While this lack of specialization makes it hard to define what constitutes a “standard motorcycle,” it also makes these bikes perfect for the average rider who wants a bike that is affordable, flexible, and easy to use. The Performance 

While standard motorcycles aren’t exactly racing bikes, if you just want enough power to commute to work or cruise around town, they’ll do just fine. This is part of the reason, besides affordability, that so many new riders choose to purchase a naked bike. The machine is powerful enough to be a useful vehicle, but not so powerful that a newbie is in danger of losing control. It doesn’t hurt that standard motorcycles are also highly versatile. 

The Design 

Standard motorcycles are ridden with the shoulders aligned above the hips, a natural and ergonomic position that balances comfort and control. The handlebars on a naked bike are a bit lower than you’ll find on other motorcycle types, which helps to reduce arm strain. Foot controls are also placed to maximize comfort, creating an overall comfortable riding experience. 

The Features 

While features vary from model to model, standard motorcycles tend to be a bit more stripped down than other motorcycle types. Naked bikes come with the essentials, and not much more than that. However, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Standard motorcycles tend to be some of the most affordable models on the market, and you can always add to your motorcycle later with aftermarket accessories should you choose to do so.
