Create A Budget

Many used scooter buyers get tripped up because they forget to factor in the costs of riding gear, insurance, repairs, licensing fees, and so on. Creating a budget is a great way to keep a handle on these extra costs. Setting a price limit will also make your search easier by eliminating costlier models from consideration. 

Check if Parts Are Easy to Find

Scooters, like all motor vehicles, require regular maintenance in order to continue functioning. Of course, you need parts in order to maintain and repair your scooter, something that becomes far more difficult if parts for that particular model are no longer being produced. This can be the case if the scooter’s manufacturer has gone out of business or the model is just very old. If you see a used scooter model that you like, do some research to see how much it will cost to order repair parts for that model. 

Inspection

Always inspect a used scooter before purchasing it. Check every part and system in the vehicle to make sure that everything functions as it should. If you’re not confident in your ability to perform a proper inspection, hire a mechanic to do it for you. You should also ask to take the used scooter for a test drive. Even if the model is in great condition and has all the features you’re looking for, it might not be a “good fit” in an ergonomic sense.
