Temperatures are dropping, which means the Fall season is in full swing and the open road is waiting for you! Cooler temperatures don't mean the riding fun has to come to an end. Fall is one of the best seasons to ride through Indiana and view the beauty it has to offer. Whether you are looking to make a day of your ride, or want to enjoy you afternoon outdoors locally, there are countless routes for riders to explore.
Want to explore the beauty of northern Indiana in the Fall? Indiana Dunes Highway 12 is the perfect route to cruise along. The 61 mile route takes you along a scenic path with beautiful views of the Indiana Dunes. On this route riders have the opportunity to make pit stops for beautiful lake views or a visit to the Indiana Dunes National Park! This ride is beautiful all year-round, however the Fall views with a crisp in the air at the Dunes is something you don't want to miss!
Looking to make a day of your ride? Indiana has many routes to offer that allow riders to devote a trip to enjoying the open road and taking in the beautiful Fall foliage. A route we highly recommend is the Nashville Brown County Loop. To see some of Indiana's best Fall scenery, look no further than Nashville where your ride will leave from and return. Once arriving, the loop begins just east of Nashville, and takes you through a 20 mile scenic route through the surrounding areas, before leading you back to the town. The twisty roads take you through the beautiful hills and forests of Brown County, where you will find craft shops, farms, and seasonal markets along the way. This route is a good mix of both twists and straightforward sections, making it a great option for riders of varying levels of experience. The Nashville Brown County Loop is also highly recommended by local riders.
Another popular route is the Ohio River Scenic Byway, which begins on the Illinois/Indiana border, runs along the river on Indiana's southern border, and finishes outside of Cincinnati. This route takes riders through rolling hills, some deep forests, as well as O'Bannon Woods State Park, which are sure to provide stunning views on a Fall day. In total, this route spans 302 miles, offering many great options to stop at along the way. From local shops, to restaurants with the freshest of food, there is something for everyone along this route.
