History of Aprilia
In this week’s post we continue our Piaggio Brands history with a spotlight on Aprilia. Originally operating as a bicycle production company, Aprilia was founded shortly after the conclusion of World War II by Alberto Beggio. Rising to prominence in 1962, the company’s scope ranged from parts distribution and creation to bicycle manufacturing, and began expanding into the motorcycle landscape. The company continued to stay in the Beggio family as they hit their stride with their first 50cc motorcycle model. The innovative spirit of Aprilia inspired a range of motorcycles and mopeds that had a strong reputation for performance and quality.
It wasn’t until the 1980s that Aprilia expanded their endeavors into the racing world, which has become such an integral aspect of the brand’s identity in today’s world. Applying their innovative spirit and passion for development, Aprilia was successful across a myriad of two-wheeled racing disciplines. That success continues to inspire Aprilia’s development today.
In 2004, the Piaggio Group acquired Aprilia, and this move ensured that the brand had all of the necessary resources to continue their production of the high-performance and high-quality motorcycles that we are treated with today. From on track to off, Aprilia continues to be a pinnacle of the motorcycle world showcasing a blend of racing heritage and innovation.
